What is it?
A Carrier Wave [as per wikipedia paraphrased] is a sinusoidal waveform (~) that is modulated with an information-bearing signal for the purpose of conveying information, usually with a much higher frequency than the input signal. Its purpose is either to transmit the information through space as an electromagnetic wave (as in radio communication), or to allow several carriers at different frequencies to share a common physical transmission medium by frequency division multiplexing (as in a cable television system). The term originated in radio communication, where the carrier wave creates the waves which carry the information (modulation) through the air from the transmitter to the receiver.
And Why?
There is a theory that a carrier wave permeates the universe and can only be heard during deep meditation, not externally in the world, but inside the mind, completely without sound. Like the description in the section above, the carrier is sinusoidal in nature, fizzing with a pulsing frequency modulated texture. There is a belief that living beings contain a biological tuner that harnesses this signal in order to download a spectrum of data from this omnipresent tone that most are unaware of.
Carrier Wave Productions chose its name not only due to its relationship to wireless communication tools, but because of this ancient lesson in listening passed down by this powerful highly complex, yet mysterious transmission.
origins
Founder, Adrian M. Martinez has been involved in music, audio and the arts his entire life. As a NYC native from the Bronx, in his childhood, he attended choir, piano, fine arts, sculpture and dance at the Harlem School of the Arts, SVA and NYU. In 2006, he began telling stories through the art of DJ'ing, eventually diving deeper into music production and theory almost 10 years later in order to learn how to tell his own stories. During that time, Adrian invested in equipment to mix sound on set, expanding and learning independently while on hundreds of jobs, some which took him around the world with associates and friends. Becoming an engineering professional allowed the pursuit of other life-long interests, like learning how to play musical instruments such as drums & percussion, winds, horns and keys.
During the pandemic of 2019, having no on-site work, Adrian dove into the art of post audio, music production and sound design by filling up his digital and physical work spaces with sequencers and synthesizers in order to learn how create in both realms.
Jamming live at home on a multi-track digital mixer created a path into the live event world, a field in which he is building clients under the CWP banner.
Currently, CWP is excited to expand into video as well with their new Sony FX3 and lighting rig.
